Khonsu Temple Initiatives
Located in the southwest corner of the Karnak Temple
Complex, Khonsu Temple is a beautiful example of an almost complete New
Kingdom temple and is well worth exploring.
Mosque of Alsam al-Silahdar
The conservation project, completed in May 2009, was designed to
ensure the long-term structural stability of the building, to conserve
the authenticity of its historical artifacts and features, and to
reinstate the architectural integrity of the monument by addressing the
problems stemming from decades of neglect.
Red Monastery
ARCE has administered the first major campaign of conservation, art
historical study, and publication of the Red Monastery church sanctuary.
Conservation Field School
Following on the success of archaeological field training for
antiquities inspectors, ARCE developed a special field school for just for MSA
architectural conservators, which ran from 2007-2010. As part of the Luxor East Bank
Groundwater Lowering Response Project, the conservator training program helped to create a cadre of Egyptian conservators who can take the
lead in the area’s conservation activities. In 2011 ARCE introduced an advanced training program for former graduates of the Conservation Field School.
